When going through infertility, a couple often finds themselves in the most intense emotional pain imaginable. God has designed us to have a desire to procreate and have progeny. Being a parent is such a beautiful reflection of how God loves us.
When we want children but they are not in our arms, we are often driven to our knees in prayer. We often pray something like, “Please make me a mom” or “Please send me a child I can love”. The pain of not being a parent when you have that desire is intense and will often force us to go through incredible measures to achieve that goal. We may need to subject our bodies to invasive tests and treatments, we may subject our personal lives to be probed by a social worker or we may even need to go to the ends of the world, literally, to find our children.
Once our children are home and we have adjusted to their daily presence in our lives, do we still feel that same fervor for our children? Are we still driven to our knees daily to pray for them? Even though they are with us now, they are still in just as much need for our fervent prayers. The world they live in is a sick and fallen world and now that they are with us, we should be driven daily with the same drive we had when we were waiting for them to be in our arms for their hearts. As a matter of fact, we need to be praying even more passionately for them because the shepherding of our hearts is now our primary responsibility. They need the protection of the Lord who is our Shepherd.
Have you fervently prayed for your child today? Have you petitioned their creator for protection for their heart? Have you shared the Gospel with them today?
Infertility can show us how much we desire our children. God desires to have our children follow Him with an intensity that we can’t even imagine. And, God loves you with that same intensity and wants you to follow Him because He loves you and eagerly wants you to have a personal relationship with Him.
Praising God today for His intense love for us and for our children and for the journey of infertility that demonstrated how strongly He desires for us to be with Him.
